Basement

The basement has undergone many changes over the years. At one time it was finished, and even had insulated walls that were later removed when foam panel insulation was added outside the foundation. The furnace and hot water tank once were enclosed in their own room that was recently removed. There was once even a wood stove in the basement, tied into the chimney flue.

The basement has no floor drain because it is never wet. Laundry water, and condensate from the furnace and hot water heater drain into the front yard holding tank. The copper water lines were replaced in about 1985. (The line that runs out through the south wall to a hose outlet was abandoned because the kitchen addition is so well insulated that it often froze in the winter.) There is a safe in the basement with a combination lock.
