When we bought the house in 1976, every floor was carpeted, even the family room and all the closets. Imagine our surprise, a few years later, when we pulled up some carpet and found pristine oak hardwood underneath. It is mostly long pieces, too, of a kind that is unobtainable today. Exposed wood floors in the three bedrooms were formerly carpeted as recently as five years ago, and the oak floor in the master bedroom, in fact, was always carpeted and has never been walked upon. Only the living room floor was lightly sanded and refinished in polyurethane to match the dining room when the addition was built. All other hardwood floors have the original varnish finish.
