The foundation alongside the family room door in back is cinderblock filled with concrete, seven feet deep, with yard-wide footings. It would easily support a 3-story structure. There was a solar greenhouse atop it until the addition was built, when we tore the greenhouse down. (Five of the six tempered glass roof panels might still be in the garage. They were salvaged from the Prudential Tower, shortly after it was built, when windows started popping out and for a while much of that building's facade was plywood rather than glass.) Various schemes and plans for that foundation, since then, have included building a 3-story tower that would enlarge the main bathroom and the master bedroom, extending the rear deck all the way to the lower back door by wrapping it around the kitchen, and using it as an herb garden. Today, while awaiting inspiration for a better use, it is planted in hosta.
